Services / Infrastructure

Keeping the system standing on the day nobody is watching.

Servers, databases, deployments and backups, with monitoring and incident response. The work you don't notice until it's missing.

What it covers

  • Servers and deployments

Releasing without cutting service, and being able to roll back if something goes wrong. The second matters more than the first.

  • Databases

Query and concurrency tuning. It's what separates a system that survives month-end close from one that crawls.

  • Backups

Automatic and, above all, tested. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a copy.

  • Monitoring and response

Finding out before the customer calls. Most outages give warning if somebody is watching.

About uptime

On systems we have administered, 99.9% uptime has been sustained by working on what actually drives it: how database connections are opened, how long heavy queries take, and what gets backed up and how often.

No serious provider promises nothing will ever fail. What's committed is finding out early, having something to come back with, and not depending on one specific person answering the phone.

Before you decide

What we usually get asked.

Do you only support systems you built?
No. We can take over an existing system, even one somebody else built. The first step there is mapping how it's put together, which is usually exactly what nobody documented.
Do I need my own server?
It depends on the system and how many people use it at once. Most sites and stores are fine on shared hosting; an ERP with several branches connected needs something else, and that's sized before anything is bought.
What about out of hours?
Monitoring doesn't sleep, but human response depends on what's agreed. Better decided beforehand: what counts as urgent, who raises it and how fast the reply comes. Writing it down avoids the argument on the day it happens.
